There are several of opinions about the most popular RPGs due to preferences and personal experiences. With the productions of technology always being improved, the quality of games today compared to 25 years ago will have a great impact on which games are the most popular and for what reasons. However, in terms of what is popular currently, these are examples of the games that seem to have most popularity over the last 10 years in the online world.

Final Fantasy VI – this particular game seems to be a very celebrated game due to its ability to incorporate art, entertainment, narrative and everything that keeps people gaming.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – The avatar in this game starts off with the player being a slave and after being released having the ability to change and make something great of the character. There seems to be many aspects of the game that allow the player to have a lot to do and be completely immerged in every aspect of coming out victorious.
Planescape: Torment – this is an older game that was released in 1999 but has a great story in the game that captivates the player. The avatar called The Nameless One and his companions are some of the best written, most enjoyable ever coded. The point of the game is not to save the world but rather just discover who you are as the player through defining moments in the game.

The Mass Effect Series – the journey of this game allowed the character to be played over the series and getting through the stages is quite entertaining. This game has kept many gamers busy for many hours.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of kings – the character is Geralt of Rivia, one of the last remaining witchers with powers to fight dragons, monsters, and other demons. This game is set apart from other games due to the unique weapons system, which you would not see in any other game.

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft – this is most possibly the most widespread game due to the number of people that are playing it or have played it at some point. The player will never get bored with the tasks that need to be completed and alliances that are built, as there is always something that needs to be done.

On the other hand, RPGs that are based in the physical sense are games such as Lord of the Rings or the World of Darkness. These particular RPGs are acted out and performed in a physical environment and not on the internet or on a game consol. All of the games listed have given gamers may hours of joy and entertainment.
